He threw is head back and laughed. Laughed into the winds. Falling from the sky, wax melting on his skin, the sun casting rays of gold upon his body where wings, only moments earlier, had helped him soar through the clouds. And as he crashed toward earth… he laughed…
We hear the tale of Icarus (I hope you’ve heard heard the tale of Icarus) and it’s lesson is intended to be a warning about our proclivity toward hubris and how it can lead to our downfall. On this, let’s all agree…too much pride equals bad human and almost certainly leads to bad endings.
But… but…it should be repeated…Icarus laughed…he took to the sky…he soared through the clouds…he ascended towards the heavens…he did something that no one else had done…he tried…and succeeded…and failed… and yes, his pride at that success is what lead to that failure… and… he laughed.
I’m not saying not to manage your pride. In fact, to be clear…manage your pride, manage your ego, & stay in close proximity to humility.
AND…AND… learn how to laugh at your failures.
Most, if not all of them will have far less severe consequences than Icarus and his wings.
